Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana Taking Entries for Annual Yearling Sale

(New Orleans, La.) - The 2008 Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana Annual Yearling Sale is set for September 29 and 30 at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, Louisiana.

This year's sale added enticement for breeders and owners is that all accredited Louisiana bred foals of 2007 auctioned in this sale are eligible to be nominated to either the A.L. "Red" Erwin Memorial Stakes ($150,000 added for sales horses, $50,000 added for non-sales horses - colts and geldings) or the Elge Rasberry Memorial Stakes ($150,000 added for sales horses, $50,000 added for non-sales horses - fillies).

All accredited Louisiana bred foals of 2007 auctioned at this sale are eligible for the Bayou State Bonus. Any colt/gelding sold in this sale that wins the 2009 Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile ($100,000), the 2010 Crescent City Derby ($75,000) and the 2010 A.L. "Red" Erwin Memorial Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus at the completion of the final race. Any filly sold in this sale that wins the 2009 Louisiana Champions Day Lassie ($100,000), the 2010 Crescent City Oaks ($75,000) and the 2010 Elge Rasberry Memorial Stakes will receive a $100,000 bonus at the completion of the final race.

Consignor contracts are available from the Breeders Sales Company of Louisiana by calling the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association at (800) 772-1195 or online at www.louisianabred.com. Entries close on July 7, 2008.

Interest in accredited Louisiana bred horses is at an all time high. Louisiana racetracks annually generate over $40 million in additional purses from slot machines at the tracks with over $12 million reserved for Louisiana-breds and $7.2 million in Breeders Awards. Four Louisiana-bred "Championship" days for nearly $3.5 million are held annually, one at each Louisiana track. There are also three restricted state-bred races are offered every day at all four Louisiana tracks. Owner bonuses (purse supplements) in Louisiana offer the most comprehensive incentive awards program in the entire country. The total owner and breeder award payout in 2006 was $20 million with more than $22.6 million being paid out in 2007.
