Third Annual EatLafayette Kicks Off on June 18th
Campaign Features Lafayette Locally-Owned Restaurants

(Lafayette, La.) – It started as a conversation between Charlie Goodson and Gerald Breaux over three years ago about how locally owned restaurants could gain visibility in a market flooded with big-dollar franchise restaurant advertising. What began as a two-week, 19-restaurant promotion has evolved to 32 restaurants and an eight-week promotion.

“EatLafayette has done more than promote locally-owned restaurants,” said Gerald Breaux, executive director of the Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission. “Our follow-up surveys indicate that it has increased business especially in the summertime when customer counts generally trend lower as compared to the rest of the year.”

“We find that it increases the awareness about which restaurants are locally-owned,” said Charlie Goodson, owner of Charley Gs and co-chairman of the campaign. “How many times have you asked the question ‘where should we go eat tonight’ and had a hard time answering the question? We have customers telling us that the campaign reminded them about our restaurant as well as other Lafayette restaurants.”

The campaign is funded with a grant from the Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission, sponsorships from local and national businesses and a nominal fee from each restaurant. A multi-media campaign will promote the restaurants and any specials they are offering as a part of the event. A website, www.eatlafayette.com, has a complete listing of all of the participating restaurants and their specials which runs June 18-August 19.
