Good Sam Club Gets Relief on Gas and Diesel Savings at Petro Stopping Centers

(Ventura, Calif.) – Good Sam Club members can now save $.02 per gallon on gas and diesel purchases at any of the 65 Petro Stopping Centers throughout the United States. Located on major highways in most states, Petro Stopping Centers (Petro) have been consistently rated as the favorite travel plaza chain in the country.

Recent surveys conducted by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association this past summer indicated that despite the rise in gas prices, RV owners still intended to use their RVs. More than half of the RVers who responded planned to use their RV more this summer than last, and a third expected to use it about the same amount. “We RVers recognize that higher fuel prices affect all kinds of transportation and travel, including airfares and hotels,” said Sue Bray, executive director for the Good Sam Club. “RV travel is still a great value.” In fact, fuel prices would have to triple from their current levels to make RVing more expensive for a family of four than other forms of travel, according to a 2005 cost comparison study by PKF Consulting.

“As much as we wish we could, the Good Sam Club has not been able to roll back gas prices to what they used to be a year ago,” said Bray. “However, we’re now able to provide a little relief to our members.”

The Good Sam Club discount doesn’t stop with gas and diesel savings. Members can now receive a 10 percent discount at any of Petro’s Iron Skillet restaurants and their on-site convenience stores.

“The RV market is large and growing rapidly,” said David P. McClure, director of marketing for Petro Stopping Centers. “They buy large amounts of fuel and will spend heavily in our convenience and travel stores and restaurants. We are working to make sure these new customers feel at home when they visit us.”

It’s easy for Good Sam Club members to save money on fuel at Petro. All they have to do is present their membership card with the Petro identification on the back, and they will get the cash discount back upon purchase.

To find out more about the Good Sam Club or to find a Petro location nearby, simply log on to the Good Sam Web site, www.goodsamclub.com.
