Estes Retires After Four Decades of Service
Bill Estes Announces Retirement from Affinity Group, Inc.

(Ventura, Calif.) - After nearly four decades of dedicated service, Bill Estes, Group Publisher of the RV Publications for Affinity Group, Inc. (AGI), has announced that he will be retiring from the company as of May 19, 2006.

Estes’ career with AGI began in 1968, after vacating his position at the Los Angeles Times. In his early years at AGI, he served as Technical Director for all RV Publications, a position that fostered not only his own personal success in the industry, but also the success of numerous RV industry entrepreneurs as well due to his significant input regarding product evaluations, timely product testing and insightful technical suggestions. Estes’ credibility in the industry led to his promotion to publisher of Trailer Life and MotorHome magazines, eventually becoming Group Publisher for all RV magazines published by AGI.

“While I am happy for Bill as he enters his much-deserved retirement, it will be very difficult for myself and the entire company to lose the guidance and support of a person who has accomplished so much throughout his distinguished career with the company,” said Mike Schneider, AGI President and CEO.

Throughout his career, Estes has received much recognition for his work, including becoming the first recipient of the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association’s Distinguished Achievement in Journalism Award in 1980. In 1984, he was honored by President Reagan for his work in Trailer Life on the national park and forest system and was later inducted into the RV Hall of Fame in 2002.

“Bill’s integrity and honesty in reporting about the RV lifestyle and related issues have become the standards for responsible industry journalism,” continued Schneider. “His work on such projects as uncovering the problems associated with overloading micro-minimotorhomes has secured his place in the annals of the RV industry indefinitely. In fact, I would go so far as to say that if a list of the Top Ten most influential people in the history of the RV industry was compiled, Bill’s name would certainly be on it.”

A true RV enthusiast, having once built his own pickup camper back in the early ‘70s, Estes is set to begin “the RV trip that never ends” with plans to hit the road in a motorhome. AGI will retain Estes’ years of knowledge and experience as a consultant while he travels around the United States.
