Final Day of RV Rally at Daytona Ready for Big Finish;
Record-setting Cake and RV Makeover Reveal Finale Set.
(Daytona, Fla.) - Thousands of RVers have been living at the Daytona International Speedway since late last week and Monday marks the last day of The Rally's stay at the NASCAR facility for the 2006 event.
There's plenty in store for participants as the event celebrates the 40th anniversary of one of the presenting sponsors and hosts, the Good Sam Club. With a million members, the RV club is the largest organization of RV owners anywhere.
RVers will indulge in a record-setting cake, the largest cake ever baked by the Speedway's caterer Americrown. Baked by eight chefs at Americrown, the anniversary masterpiece is a three-foot high treat made of 150 18 x 26 chocolate and vanilla sheet cakes that include:
1,000 pounds of cake mix
500 pounds of icing
10 gallons of oil
The finished product will be four tiers high with each measuring:
First tier: 20 foot long by 4 feet wide
Second tier: 8 feet long by 4 feet wide
Third tier: 6 feet long by 4 feet wide
Fourth Tier: 4 feet by 4 feet
The cake, which took 60-man hours to complete, will serve 8,000 partygoers attending the celebration, which will take place in the infield garage-area at historic Daytona International Speedway.
The cake will be on display at 1:00 p.m. and will be served at 3:00 p.m. Organizers are encouraging early viewing since the cake will disappear quickly when 8,000 are served.
Also on tap is the reveal of the RV Rescue, an RV makeover witnessed by The Rally audience. The reveal is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
