(Daytona Beach, Fla.)- From doggy day care to doggy fashion wear, our canine comrades can no longer be called pets. These days, they're more like family members who enjoy long walks and cozy fireplaces. This endearing relationship between people and pooches can make it heartbreaking to leave them out of family vacations. So what's a doting dog owner to do?

RVing is a Fun Way for Pets and Owners to Vacation Together
The Rally Welcomes Canine Companions

(Daytona Beach, Fla.)- From doggy day care to doggy fashion wear, our canine comrades can no longer be called pets. These days, they're more like family members who enjoy long walks and cozy fireplaces. This endearing relationship between people and pooches can make it heartbreaking to leave them out of family vacations. So what's a doting dog owner to do?

Lucky for Rover, RVs offer the perfect solution. In a survey conducted by the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA), 48 percent of the United States' 8 million RV-owning families travel with their pets, and dogs are at the top of the list. No longer do puppy parents have to endure those big, sad eyes when they pack their suitcases. In an RV, dogs and other pets can travel with the family, and there's no need to search for a hotel that allows animals. They can be left in the climate-controlled vehicle and be just as happy as if they were at home in their favorite spot. Also, kennels can be expensive for humans and stressful for dogs, but RVs eliminate the need for boarding.

"The entire family can stay together when they travel in an RV," said Sue Bray, executive director of the Good Sam Club, the world's largest RV owners association. "Most pets are part of the family, and traveling with them creates wonderful memories."

In honor of Americans' dog devotedness, The Rally, the nation's largest gathering of RVers, encourages all participants to bring their pups by holding its third annual Dog Show. This year, The Rally will be held at Daytona Beach International Speedway April 7-10, with the dog show taking place on Saturday, April 8th at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded in seven categories: Best Depiction of the Rally Dog Show Theme ("Daytona Dogs!"), Double-Vision (dog/owner look-alike), Find-the-Treat Rally Race, K9 Musical Chairs, Silliest Pet Trick, Best Howl and Best In Show.

Pets and their owners will travel from all over the country to participate in this year's Rally. Several pooches have already entered the contest such as Sara, a Boston Terrier from Alabama; Tucker, a Siberian Husky from South Carolina; and Haley, a Staffordshire Terrier travelling all the way from New York. Some of the more unique breeds competing include a Basenji Mix named Pampa and a Vizla named Guss.

In addition to the dog show, The Rally will feature many events designed to appeal to all ages and interests. A comprehensive seminar program, hundreds of RV-related exhibits and new RVs, a free kids program, Ladies Red Hat Social, a book discussion and an arts-and-crafts fair are just a few. For more information about The Rally or to register online, visit www.therally.com.

The Rally is hosted by the Good Sam Club, Camping World President's Club, Coast to Coast Resorts, Woodall's, and MotorHome and Trailer Life magazines.

About The Rally
