WORLD-WIDE COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY DELIVERS
IMMEDIATE RECOVERY SOLUTIONS FOR CAMERON PARISH

(Lafayette, LA)- When Hurricane Rita tore through Cameron Parish, communication was the last thing officials wanted destroyed, but because of their faith in SOLA Communications, L.L.C., it was the first thing they could count on to be recovered.

SOLA was contacted by the LA Department of Public Safety (LDPS) to provide a satellite communications package for Cameron Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP)/Sheriff's Dept. SOLA communications assembled and transported the equipment to the Cameron Prairie National Wildlife Center. Upon arrival, SOLA was advised that weather conditions were unsafe preventing set-up in Cameron, and agreed to return the following day.

Upon return, SOLA technicians departed from the wildlife center and traveled to the Cameron Parish Courthouse to deploy a SOLA Emergency Response Unit (ERU), a mobile communications and command center. The unit contained a 1.2 meter auto-acquisition satellite platform, providing a T1 Internet connection and phone service.

"Following the hurricane, SOLA provided the first communication lines at the courthouse," said Cameron Parish Sheriff Theos Duhon. "Since the lines were put in place, no matter what came up, we would contact SOLA and they would get here as soon as they could to help us. This gave us the ability to communicate with Deputies, the Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP), the public, etc."

In addition, SOLA provided Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones, giving Cameron parish officials the ability to make telephone calls using a computer network, over a data network like the Internet. The telephone voice signal is converted into a digital signal that travels over the internet and then converts back at the other end enabling conversation with anyone possessing a regular phone number.

"I've worked with SOLA here in Cameron since day one after the hurricane and am 100% satisfied with their services," said Deputy Tommy Thompson of the Cameron Parish Sheriff's Department. "If problems arose, major or minor, they would get down here immediately to work on it. After the storm, we had no way to communicate and we needed it bad. Our cell phones and radios didn't work...nothing did. This communication was vital and SOLA provided it for us. If it wasn't for them, I guess we'd have to communicate with a can and a string...and I don't think that would work too well."

Power was established from the ERU to the OEP located on the third floor of the courthouse. Fax communication was set up and a Wi-Fi System was deployed, including four wireless laptop computers and printers. This system provided Internet access for the OEP. A fifth computer was set up in the ERU and all communication lines tested successfully.
