$1,636,427 WIN AT LOUISIANA CASINO CHANGES NEW ORLEANS EVACUEE'S LUCK
Quarter Slot Machine at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino Changes Evacuee's Fortune In An Instant

(Opelousas, LA.) - When Jacquelyn Sherman evacuated from New Orleans, she knew she lost everything in the devastating storm known as Hurricane Katrina. Sherman made her way to the Acadiana region of Louisiana to escape the destruction of Katrina, which was twice spared destruction by hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Tonight Sherman decided to take time for some entertainment and went to Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in Opelousas, Louisiana, which is just north of the city of Lafayette. The area is housing tens of thousands of evacuees who fled both Katrina and Rita. Sherman was playing a quarter slot machine when she hit a jackpot that paid $1,636,427.

Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino is one of the two remaining racetracks in Louisiana left unharmed by the hurricanes. The owners, management, staff, horsemen, jockeys and fans already opened up their pocketbooks to the tune of $80,000 from a recent night of racing to help local efforts supporting Katrina evacuees.

"This is the most exciting thing that could happen for Ms. Sherman and for us," said Mike Howard, General Manager for Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino. "We are thrilled for Ms. Sherman. To be a part of changing someone's fortune during these trying times is a dream come true for all of us."
