Lafayette Restaurants Launch "EatLafayette" Campaign

(Lafayette, LA) - "To Eat Well is to Eat Lafayette" is the headline for an upcoming local restaurant campaign. Branded as "EatLafayette," the multi-media advertising campaign will launch the first promotion for a group of local restaurants that have banded together to encourage a Lafayette Parish-wide culinary experience. The inaugural promotion is set for June 20 - 30.

Local restaurant owners Charlie Goodson of Charley G's, Jack Ainsworth of Bella Figura Ristorante, Jimmy Guidry of Hub City Diner and Ken Veron with Café Vermilionville approached Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission Executive Director Gerald Breaux with the idea in an effort to market themselves more effectively.

"Our goal is to remind everyone how important our local restaurants are to our community," said Breaux. "The campaign says remember how lucky we are to have so many good local restaurants. It's not something you can find just anywhere."

"Often times people don't think about all of the restaurant options they have in this area," said Goodson. "How many times have you asked yourself 'where can we go out to eat tonight' and you only think of one or two places? This campaign will help give you those options."

The promotion is also billed as a celebration of the continued growth of an important part of the Acadiana culture, culinary and economic scene. "This year is the '250th Anniversary of the Cajuns of Louisiana' and that's how we came up with the number 25," said Breaux. "We couldn't think of a place that had more to celebrate Cajuns in Louisiana than here!" In honor of the anniversary, all of the participating restaurants are featuring a special with some version of 25.

"Restaurants are offering very good specials in addition to their regular menus," said Goodson. "There are dinners for two for $25, four course meals for $25, appetizers for $2.50, and 25% off on total tickets."

Part of the fun of the promotion is checking out the www.EatLafayette.com website for all of the specials along with information about each restaurant and planning your own "EatLafayette menu" for the ten day promotion. "After looking at some of the specials, I know what I'll be doing for the next couple of weeks," said Breaux. "I'll be the first in line to EatLafayette."

The event is sparked by a grant from the Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission along with contributions from the participating restaurants and supporting sponsors, BellSouth and Atmos Energy.
