Racino Gives H.O.P.E. Support for Horse Rescue Effort

(Opelousas, LA.) - Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino is leading an effort to assist the newly formed Humanitarian Organization for the Protection of Equines (H.O.P.E.). The organization's mission is to rescue abused and neglected horses in the Acadiana region. To date the group has assisted more than 30 horses.

"Most of our customers either own horses, or know someone who does," said executive director for Casino Operations & Marketing, Neil Narter. "Our business is built on horse racing so we have a built-in loyalty and love of horses."

The organization approached station manager/chief community relations officer/anchor Newscan 10 at 5pm Maria Placer a couple of weeks ago about the plight of some horses in Acadiana. Placer contacted the Racino and together they launched an effort to assist horses in dire need of care.

The TV station started the publicity blitz while the Racino is seeding an account with a financial contribution at Feed Pro in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. The Racino's racetrack, which is still operating in Carencro, is setting up a collection area for new and used equipment for the rescued horses.

Feed Pro is doing the same for the collection of new and used equipment, wormer and other items needed for the horses. Additionally, a special account has been set up for financial contributions in the name of H.O.P.E. Checks can be sent to Feed Pro, c/o H.O.P.E., P.O. Box 349, Sunset, LA 70584. Feed Pro is located at 1524 I-49 North Frontage Road just off the Grand Coteau exit.

"We are pleased to be a part of this effort," continued Narter. "Most of us are animal lovers and we couldn't let this call for help go unanswered."
