Are You Ready to Tri-Running?

Kathrine Switzer was the first woman to run the Boston Marathon as a numbered entry. If she can admit to a lack of motivation at times, you can certainly forgive yourself for yours. What's important is that you want to lace up! You're halfway there and Tri-Running Lafayette is here to take you to the finish line.


First things first, you NEED a good pair of running shoes. Not tennis shoes, not cross-training shoes... running shoes. Having the right pair will not only enable you to perform better, but can aid you in avoiding common running injuries such as shin splints and plantar fasciitis. One of our associates will watch you walk, analyze your foot strike, and recommend you a style that is aligned with your objectives. The right shoes are the only equipment needed for this sport. Now, you've got your new Asics, Brooks, Nikes etc., so you're all set to go run right? Maybe not. For some people it's not that easy. When should you run? Where? For how long? Well the answers depend on you. Assess yourself and discover your current fitness level and the subsequent goals you want to achieve.


There are so many resources out there for your use. You could pick up Kathrine Switzer's book, Marathon Woman. If you're more of a tech-user than a page-turner, you could try one of the training apps on the market like Couch to 5k. Or for a free alternative, you could hit the internet. There are websites out there, such as this one, that offer running programs that are tailored to specific skill levels and goals. 




No matter what option you choose they all have three tips in common: be patient, always listen to your body, and keep it fun!
