Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots Will Award Four Scholarships at Starlight Racing/College Night
(New Orleans, La.) – Starlight Racing/College Night will take place on December 20 at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association will award two scholarships, each valued at $1,000, during the event. Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will also award two scholarships, each valued at $1,000.
The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association has evolved from a small group of horsemen who united in 1963 to the top thoroughbred breeding program in the United States. The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association and Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots will award four (4) scholarships each valued at $1,000 at the upcoming Starlight Racing/College Night on December 20, 2013. The winners will be announced after each of the final four races of the night and photographs will be taken with the winners. The races begin at 5 p.m. and the student must be there to register between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. at the designated booth in the West entrance.
The requirements for the scholarship are as follows:
·         Must be a college student that will be enrolled full time for Spring 2014.
·         Must be in good standing with the college.
·         Must be present to win.
The scholarship will be deposited directly to the student's account at the college. The student is asked to know the name and address of the college that they are attending.
"The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association is pleased to make an investment in the future of our state by investing in the education process," said Roger Heitzmann, Secretary/Treasurer for the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association.
Admission discounts for the Miller Time Beer Garden will be offered at this Starlight event for all teachers, college students and employees, as well as members of the military and first responders. Valid identification must be presented to receive the 50% discount. Access to the Miller Time Beer Garden, which will be transformed into a cozy, lounge setting for this Starlight Racing event, will again be coupled with clubhouse entry for just $10. Grandstand general admission will remain at $5. Racing fans must be 21 years old to enter the Miller Time Beer Garden.
Local performers, The Bucktown All-Stars will perform in the clubhouse beginning at 7p. Libations from Absolut and Jameson, the Official Starlight Spirits Partners, will also be served throughout the facility. Additionally, members of popular Uptown restaurant, Hoshun, as well as local pop-up, Woody's Fish Taco's, will be present with their well-known fare on the track Apron.
Racing fans are also encouraged to visit the new Star Guitar Bar located on the west end of the paddock. Friday will mark the official Grand Opening of the bar, redecorated in honor of the richest Louisiana-bred racehorse of all time.
