2013 Louisiana Champions Day Set for Saturday at The Fair Grounds in New Orleans

(New Orleans, La.) – The 23rd running of Louisiana Champions Day is set for this Saturday, December 14, at The Fair Grounds in New Orleans, Louisiana. First post is set for 12:30 pm CT in one of the biggest days in championship racing in Louisiana.

The event is preceded the night before by a Gala hosted by members of the Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders Association (LTBA) in the racetrack’s Clubhouse. The Louisiana Champions Day Gala celebrates the breeders, owners and people who serve the Louisiana horse industry.

“It is a time for us to celebrate the end of another successful breeding and racing year,” said Roger Heitzmann, secretary/treasurer for the LTBA. “It is always exciting to watch Louisiana breds compete at this level on Louisiana Champions Day.”

Louisiana Champions Day is one of four major race dates dedicated to Louisiana bred thoroughbred racehorses. Each of the four tracks throughout Louisiana has a turn at hosting a championship day. Delta Downs Racetrack & Casino, Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino, and Harrah’s Louisiana Downs host the other dates.

“It is a great incentive for the breeders and owners,” said Jake Delhomme, president of the LTBA Board of Directors. “These championship dates give all of us a goal for our breeding and racing programs. It is one of the highlights of our breeders and racing incentive program and The Fair Grounds is an exciting place to finish the year.”

Louisiana Champions Day features $1.1 million in stakes races for Louisiana bred racehorses. It is one of the richest days in horse racing in Louisiana that rewards the breeders and owners of Louisiana breds.

Owners nominated entries throughout the year and final entries were announced today for all races. To download Louisiana Champions Day entries, click here.
