ShopLafayette by LafayetteTravel Kicks Off at
IND Monthly's Fashion Night Out and the 2013 IND STYLE AWARDS
 
(Lafayette, La.) – ShopLafayette™ by LafayetteTravel is a campaign designed to increase top of mind awareness for Lafayette as a shopping and travel destination.

The primary purpose is to increase retail sales and hotel occupancy while promoting Lafayette as a place to shop and stay. The top three leisure travel activities for domestic travelers in Louisiana are visiting friends and relatives, shopping and dining. The ShopLafayette campaign promotes the diversity of retail, overnight and event experiences Lafayette offers during the holiday season.

ShopLafayette™ by Lafayette.Travel is the marketing engine for promoting what already exists: retail outlets, overnight accommodations and events and performances. All of these are reasons for people to come to Lafayette, especially during the holiday shopping season.
 
The 2013 campaign kicks off with the IND Monthly’s Fashion Night Out and 2013 IND Style Awards. ShopLafayette is a supporting sponsor for the event that features Lafayette Travel’s Ben Berthelot on the runway.
 


“We did a very soft launch last fall and watched the concept gain traction,” said Berthelot, President and CEO for the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission (LafayetteTravel). “We know tourists shop when they travel and retails sales are setting records in Lafayette. Anything we can do to encourage overnight stays and shopping will be productive for our area and merchants.”

Promotional events and opportunities will be the foundation for advertising, public relations, social media marketing and other campaign drivers. “Unlike EatLafayette™ by LafayetteTravel, which the campaign is modeled after, a store/outlet participation fee is not part of the process,” said Berthelot.
 
Revenue to fund the campaign is coming from shopping districts, organizations and other businesses that benefit from the effort. To date, Dunn’s Furniture and Interiors, Spa Mizan Salon and Spa and Upper Lafayette have signed on as sponsors with more to come.
 

“All merchants, retailers, restaurants and hotels in Lafayette Parish are included. Website listings and social media mentions are free,” said Berthelot. “The campaign is not limited to locally owned establishments. It’s about marketing everything we have in the parish.”

 
This year’s promotional campaign dates are Sept. 15-Dec. 31.
