Offsite Data Backup Services Provide Peace of Mind During Disasters

(Lafayette, La.) - Offsite data backup services provided by locally-owned and operated Total Network Technologies provide peace of mind for many area businesses in case of disaster, such as a hurricane.

Secure Data Protection

All user accounts are 256-bit encrypted with an encryption key selected by the user on the client-side before being uploaded and stored on the backup server. They key will never be uploaded to the server during backup.

Dual Layer Protection

All user accounts are initially backed up to a secure data center in the Lafayette Oil Center and then replicated to another secure facility out of state. This ensures the safety of your data even in the event of a large scale disaster.

Continuous Data Protection (CDP)

With CDP, whenever there are changes made to the files in the backup set, it will automatically back up the changes to the server. Thus, it provides a highly dependable means of real-time, continuous data protection effortlessly and transparently, without any human intervention.

Supports Common Databases & VMs

Unlike other backup software, there is no need to purchase separate modules to backup databases and VMs, such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL servers, Microssoft Sharepoint, Oracle, MySQL, Hyper-V, VMware, etc.

How does the offsite backup work?

We will install a piece of software on your device(s). One of our techs will sit down with you at time of setup and determine which files you would like to have backed up. Depending on the size of the files, we will either allow the initial backup to be transferred over the internet or we may elect to perform a "seed backup". A seed backup consists of backing up the data to an external hard drive and then we transfer the data by connecting the hard drive directly to the storage server, thus allowing us to move the data without the speed issues of the internet. Next, we schedule what is called a "differential backup" to occur. This checks each file that is being backed up and transfers only the updated files to the server. For example, if you have 100 files on your PC and you edit 2, it will only backup the 2 files that you have edited to the server instead of spending time and resources to backup 98 files that have not changed.

When does the backup happen?

We can schedule the backups to happen as often as you would like. We normally recommend a nightly differential backup.

What will be backed up?

We can set our software to backup as little or as much as you would like. We CAN NOT backup program files; however, we can back up the data files associated with the program files.

How long will this backup take?

This is entirely dependent on the number of files that have been selected for backup. It may take as little as 15 minutes or up to multiple hours.

What happens if the backup fails?

The backup software has a built-in monitor system which can be set up to send logs and error notifications to a predetermined email address. We also periodically check in on all of the systems to ensure that they are functioning properly.

What redundancy is there?

The data is initially being backed up to a secure data center located in the Oil Center. This data center has a 99+% uptime rate, redundant internet connections, multiple UPS power backups and a redundant backup power grid. The storage servers are then backed up to a 3rd party secure data center in another state.
