LSART, National Partners Bring First Animal Response Unit to LA
ASPCA, IFAW Grant Provides Funding

Baton Rouge— Louisiana now boasts its first state of the art emergency response unit designed and outfitted specifically for animal disaster assistance. The truck and trailer, acquired by the Louisiana State Animal Response Team through a grant from ASPCA and IFAW, will be introduced at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, September 18 at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. Tours of the unit will be held in conjunction with an equine handling workshop for veterinary students and animal control officers. The LSART Response Unit will travel throughout the state this fall to festivals and training exercises, providing disaster preparedness information to animal owners and first responders.
***Please Note: the LSART Animal Emergency Response Unit tour and equine handling demonstration will provide great photo and video opportunities. LSART, ASPCA and IFAW spokespeople will also be available for interviews on-site.

WHAT: Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Tour, LSART Animal Emergency Response Unit

WHEN: Friday, September 18, 2009

Ceremony: 11:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Tours will follow until 1:00 p.m.


WHERE: School of Veterinary Medicine, Louisiana State University
Equine Lameness Pavilion, Corner of Skip Bertman Drive and River Road
MORE: The response unit will be used to provide specialized services for animals affected by disasters. The vehicle can be utilized for sheltering, veterinary care, and search and rescue. It can also function as a communications command center or serve as on-site housing for first responders.
